Aromatherapy Shower Melts – DIY

These shower melts are fun and super easy to make (also known as Shower Bombs or Shower Steamers).  These are great for ‘shower people’ (like me) or for those who don’t have a tub to enjoy a hot bath with essential oils. They can also be used to relieve your airways if you have a congestion from seasonal threats. You can blend any essential oils, for your aromatherapy.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Baking Soda
1/2 Cup Epsom Salt
1/2 Cup of Corn Starch
3 Teaspoon of Water (may need to add more)
Food Coloring (optional)
Essential oils – approx 20 to 40 drops
– I used an Invigorating Blend which included the following essential oils: Bergamot, Wild Orange, Lemon and Douglas Fir

Instructions:

  • Combine Baking Soda, Epsom salt and Corn Starch and mix well until combined
  • Pour 1 teaspoon of water (only 1 teaspoon at at time) into the mix and stir until you get the consistency of slightly wet sand
  • Mixture should hold together when squeezed (like making a snowball) but should not appear wet at all. You may need to add slightly more water if it hasn’t achieved this consistency yet
  • Add one or two drops of any food coloring of your choice (this is optional, only if you want to add color)
  • Once you get this texture, add the essential oils and stir to combine
  • Push mixture into silicon molds, press in firmly (packed them in tightly) and leave at least 24 hours (48 is better) or until hardened
  • When dry, remove and store in air tight container
  • This recipe made 19 steamers but it all depends the size silicon molds are used

When you’re ready to shower, place one in the bottom of the shower.  Relax and enjoy your blend of aromatherapy 🙂
